“This is something that we set out to do from the beginning of the year, and it’s just a very rewarding feeling to know that when you go out as a group of men, you support each other every day, you compete every day that you can do something like this for the organization, the city and the whole state of Wisconsin.”
Ryan Braun, after the Milwaukee Brewers clinched their first division title since 1992.

Lessons from Packers’ on-field leader

Charles Woodson (21) talks with the media after winning Super Bowl XLV. (Gary A. Vasquez/NFL)

In consecutive games, Charles Woodson delivered powerful speeches to his teammates. One came following the team’s win over the Bears in the NFC Championship. The other came at halftime of Super Bowl XLV, when an emotional Woodson — upon learning that he was too hurt to return to the game — faced his teammates to inform them of his broken collarbone and that his only contributions for the rest of the game would come from the sidelines.

The Packers survived the Steelers’ frantic second-half surge to win the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl and record 13th NFL championship. Woodson was shown by FOX cameras a number of times on the sidelines in the second half cheering on his team.

Obviously, the Packers rally around Woodson. Somebody I know explains what makes Woodson such an effective communicator, even presenting five lessons Woodson that provides …

    Lesson One: Credibility is key.
Lesson Two: Don’t wing it. Prepare.
Lesson Three: Soothe then Surprise your audience.
Lesson Four: Know when and how to end it.
Lesson Five: Don’t be afraid of emotion.

It is an interesting take on just how important Woodson was to the Packers this season. Read the full blog post here.

“Winning is not a sometime thing … it’s an all the time thing. You don’t win once in a while … you don’t do the right thing once in a while … you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit.”

Vince Lombardi, Hall of Fame coach of the Green Bay Packers.
